THE 2nd GENERATION SYNTHETIC REED HAS ARRIVED For over 100 years, when it comes to reeds, woodwind players have been subject to the whims of Mother Nature and the variances of quality in available cane stock. It is our belief that a sustainable alternative to natural materials must be found. That alternative is AMBIPOLY. AMBIPOLY is made from a 2nd generation synthetic material specifically engineered for musical applications - the first of its kind. It behaves remarkably like cane: The material absorbs water, adapts to the mouthpiece facing, and is completely adjustable with typical reed tools. AMBIPOLY is unaffected by variances in temperature, humidity or altitude. AMBIPOLY reeds will play exactly the same every time you pick up your horn, and with proper care will last for an extraordinary 12+ months. This is an unprecedented value for woodwind players! AMBIPOLY Clarinet reeds are offered in two different profiles: REBORN LEGACY Optimized for chamber music and recital performances, with a dark, round, rich timbre and a superbly balanced tonal profile. Primo offers a compact, supple and intimate playing experience with balanced resistance and control. TIP: Legacy clarinet reed tip VAMP: Thicker heart and vamp BORN FREE Designed for a quick and free-blowing response with a vibrant and lively tonal profile, AMBIPOLY Vivace is ideal for the soloist, orchestral, or jazz player. Projection and power, with warm and fluent altissimo. TIP: Slightly wider tip profile VAMP: Standard legacy vamp and heart NOT YOUR TYPICAL SYNTHETIC REED Injection Molded AMBIPOLY is the first synthetic reed made with military grade, double injection precision molding. This process ensures accuracy and incredible consistency from reed to reed. The reed is created from two distinct polymers, an inner polymer that mimics the spine of a typical cane reed, and an outer polymer that creates the body. Absorbs Water AMBIPOLY is the first ever synthetic material designed to absorb moisture. Moisture ads harmonic coherence to the sound and is key to a familiar reed experience. The reed will absorb 2-3% moisture when soaked for 30 seconds or so. Climate Independent AMBIPOLY reeds are not affected by temperature, altitude or humidity. The reeds will perform uniformly and consistently wherever your music takes you. From the marching field to the concert stage, from sea level to the Rockies AMBIPOLY has you covered. Say goodbye to reed worries! Mouthpiece Pairing AMBIPOLY behaves remarkably like cane. After several minutes of playing, the reed will pair itself to the mouthpiece, learning the facing of the mouthpiece and adapting to the embouchure of the player. Once the reed is paired with the mouthpiece, it will play consistently the same on that mouthpiece for months. WORLD CLASS PERFORMANCE FOR WORLD CLASS PERFORMERS: Wenzel Fuchs "I have been playing Alta AMBIPOLY reeds exclusively for my orchestral, solo performances and all recordings. AMBIPOLY is a true revolution. With its rich, dark and round sound, it plays like the best cane reed. Adding all other benefits, AMBIPOLY brought an entirely new ear to the clarinet community. AMBIPOLY is my reed!" Milan Rericha "The reeds are incredible... this is really the product that can change the future. In all types of playing it sounds incredible. Keeps the same equal intonation in each register and is endlessly flexible. Makes me feel to play on and on. And the biggest advantage is that it behaves like a proper cane reed but the longer you play it, the better it gets... and is beautiful by sdesign! Nancy Braithwaite "I have been playing Alta AMBIPOLY reeds since I first tried them in 2019. Although the original cut works very well on my setup, I am now IN LOVE with the new Primo cut. This reed has an added warmth and flexibility, an even sound throughout the registers, wonderful response in articulation and excellent intonation also in the upper register. It also invites a variety of colors and enhances relaxation. The Alta AMBIPOLY synthetic reed offers me unprecedented artistic freedom!" Rocco Parisi "Hi everyone, you guys are not gonna believe this but I'm playing with a Silverstein AMBIPOLY reed, and guess what? The sound is exactly the same as [the] cane reeds that we know very well. Obviously, AMBIPOLY reeds have a lot of advantages and features that other reeds don't have. For example, one of the main advantages is the fact that the AMBIPOLY reed is reliable in all weather and it is more resistant to humidity and other factors that could influence the performance of the artist." A FEW AMBIPOLY GUIDELINES: WET THE REED:: AMBIPOLY works best when it's wet. Place the tip and vamp in water for 30 seconds to a minute before playing to hydrate the reed. Don't submerge the reed fully. PAIR THE REED: In the first 15 minutes or so of playing, the reed will begin to learn and adapt to the facing of your mouthpiece, as well as adapting to your particular embouchure. This process can take significantly less or more time and will vary greatly between mouthpieces and players. PLAY THE REED: Once the reed is paired with a particular mouthpiece, it will play consistently for several months. Should you change mouthpieces you will need to go through the pairing process again. This doesn't affect the reed's life expectancy. ENJOY THE REED: The absolute key to a positive experience with AMBIPOLY reeds is to spend the time necessary to break the reed in and let it settle. If you follow this basic process, you will have a much more rewarding experience with AMBIPOLY. OUR MISSION Silverstein Works was founded in the belief that woodwind musicians deserve better from our industry. We work hard to provide innovative products of the highest-quality that bring exceptional benefit and value to the woodwind community. I tossed all my cane and Legere reeds and exclusively play on 3.5 and 3.5+ Silverstein bass clarinet reeds (might try a 4 next). I play these on a Yahama professional bass clarinet with a Silverstein CRYO4 Gen. 5 ligature. Extremely responsive. I would go with a higher hardness than you do on a cane reed. People ask me how my high notes sound so good. Perfect for playing solo pieces that go sky high into the altissimo range like those by Jonathan Russell. I predominantly play bass clarinet but was so satisfied with these I bought one for my Bb clarinet too.
