There is nothing more exciting to topwater anglers than having a big bass explode on a Hula Popper. For nearly 70 years anglers have said the Hula Popper, with its pulsating skirt, is their insurance when all else fails — morning, noon and night. The Arbogast Hula Popper is deadly when popped over submerged timber, weeds or grass beds. They give every big fish within listening distance a real wake-up call they will never forget, and a fishing trip every Hula Popper angler will long remember!
This legendary lure is just as deadly on bass, pike and other gamefish today as it was when it first hit the market more than 60 years ago
Pulsating skirt makes the difference, even during the pause it moves like something alive, for a killer action that results in vicious topwater strikes
The concave mouth of the Hula Popper produces big, loud “bloops” that gives every big fish within hearing distance a wake-up call they'll never forget
Cupped lip displaces water with every twitch of the rod tip
Perfect for targeting fish around submerged timber, weeds, and grass beds
I carried around a classic green/white hula popper in my tackle box for nearly 10 years before using it. It was a hand-me-down from my father, who preferred river trout fishing. I actually didn't think it looked like something fish would go for. Not only was I wrong, but it has turned out to be one of my favorite and fun lures whenever there is any top water feeding action going on. Here is why I think it is a winner for introducing young ones to fishing as well, it combines the visual cues of a bobber, with the very very forgiving stickiness of dual treble hooks. All the young person needs to do is tug on it occasionally with a very slow retrieve. When the fish go for it, it is easy to spot, and usually VERY entertaining. I have had fish shoot 2-3 feet in the air when initially clobbering this lure. The hooks are very sharp, and good quality, which means the hook-up ratio is very good, even for a young angler that hasn't mastered setting the hook. I carry a few color variations now days, but I find myself back with the classic green/white frog most often.
